First Team Players

  1 - Ashley Bayes
Goalkeeper
The experienced stopper was one of Graham Westley’s first signings in his second spell in charge at Borough, having rejected Crawley Town’s offer of a new deal. The much travelled keeper has previously had spells with Brentford, Torquay, Hornchurch and Leyton Orient where he displaced Scott Barrett as number one keeper and played under former manager Mark Stimson at Grays.

  2 - Lawrie Wilson
Defender/Midfield
A versatile player, equally comfortably at right back or right-side midfield, Wilson was signed for Stevenage Borough at the start of the 2007-08 campaign by previous manager Mark Stimson from Championship side Colchester United.

  3 - Scott Laird
Defender
The 19-year-old left back arrived from Plymouth Argyle, initially on a one-month loan deal. Laird began his career as a trainee at Plymouth, making his debut in his side’s 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers in August 2007. Initially a centre back, Laird was used in central midfield, where he made his debut for the senior side. Has since reverted to a left back role, where he played when on loan at Tiverton Town and earlier this season at Blue Square Premier rivals Torquay United.

  4 - Eddie Anaclet
Defender
After rejecting the offer of a new contract from Oxford United, Graham Westley swooped quickly to bring pacey right back Anaclet to Stevenage. At home either on the wing or at full back, Anaclet started his career at Oxford before joining Southampton, playing with the likes of Theo Walcott including a spell at Yeovil on loan. After catching the eye of then Oxford manager Jim Smith, he moved back to his hometown club, making 30 appearances in the 2007/08 season.

  5 - Luke Oliver
Defender
Signed for £15,000 by Graham Westley just before the end of the January 2006 transfer window closed from Yeovil Town, Oliver was selected captain by Mark Stimson at the beginning of the 2007/08 campaign. Impressive during his stint at Woking both prior to his move to Yeovil, and again after being loaned back. Playing a handful of games at the end of the 2006-07 season as a striker, including the FA Trophy final at Wembley, but has since reverted to his more familiar centre back berth.

  6 - Mark Albrighton (Captain)
Defender
The 32-year-old centre back made the short move from Cambridge to join Stevenage in the summer of 2008, signing a two-year deal and joining fellow new signing Lee Boylan at Broadhall Way. Albrighton was an influential player in the Cambridge United side that won through to the Promotion Final in May 2008, making 45 appearances. Having played at Doncaster and Boston in the league, he also has the experience of working with Graham Westley before in a loan spell at Rushden & Diamonds.

  7 - Anthony Thomas
Striker
Following his release from local rivals Barnet, Thomas was quickly snapped up by Graham Westley to add pace to Borough’s frontline. Previously a player at Hemel Hempstead, where he scored 72 goals in two seasons, he signed for Barnet in May 2007. After a brief loan spell at Cambridge City he was released by Paul Fairclough. Extremely quick, Thomas will be looking to aid Borough’s race into the football league.

  8 - Gary Mills
Midfield
The former Rushden & Diamonds, Tamworth and Crawley midfielder joined Borough in the summer of 2008, signing from Kettering Town. After beginning his career with Rushden he went on to make 124 appearances before joining Crawley. After another spell at Rushden, Mills made the move to Tamworth but his stay was a short one, moving to Kettering with the former Tamworth manager Mark Cooper.

  9 - Iyseden Christie
Striker
The 6ft striker was signed by Graham Westley in the summer of 2008 after rejecting the offer of a new deal at Kidderminster Harriers. After a successful previous spell at Kidderminster scoring ten goals in 23 league games, he moved to Rochdale. However after moving back on loan to Kidderminster he signed a permanent deal in January 2007. Christie has previously played in the league with Coventry, Mansfield, Leyton Orient and Bournemouth.

  10 - Lee Boylan
Striker
After beginning his career with West Ham United, the former Canvey Island and Grays Athletic front man joined Borough from nearby rivals Cambridge United after scoring 13 goals in 28 starts as Cambridge reached the playoff final. He had great success with Canvey, helping them get promoted to the Conference, before leaving for Grays Athletic in 2006. However after just one season Boylan joined Cambridge. He has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level and also England ‘C’ under Paul Fairclough.

  12 - Luke Cole
Midfield

  13 - Daryl McMahon
Midfield
The former West Ham United junior signed during the January 2007 transfer window to add creativity to the engine room. A cultured player equally comfortable with either foot, he is at home taking set pieces or firing long-range efforts on goal. The Ireland born McMahon spent six years as a junior at West Ham before briefly joining Port Vale. A move back to London and Leyton Orient soon ensued where he made 63 appearances in two years. Firmly established as a fans favourite after an impressive 2007/08 season, like others McMahon will be looking to cement himself in Boroughs midfield.

  14 - Elliot Buchanan
Striker

  15 - John Martin
Midfield
Signed from Grays Athletic shortly before Borough's FA Trophy victory at Wembley, John Martin became Mark Stimson's first summer signing in May 2007, agreeing a two-year deal. Having played under him at Grays, Stimson was keen for Martin to join to score goals and add strength to Borough's midfield. Formerly with Leyton Orient, he was converted from winger to a central midfield role under Stimson and became a key player in Gray’s success. His Borough career, although somewhat interrupted by injury has been impressive so far and he will look to tie down a regular starting place.

  16 - James Russell
Goalkeeper
A product of the Chelsea youth system, Russell joined Stevenage Borough as cover for Alan Julian at the start of the 2007 season. He made his debut in an FA Cup tie at Salisbury City and spent much of the 2007/08 season on loan at Canvey Island.

  17 - George Brinkman
Striker

  18 - David Bridges
Midfield
Signed in the summer of 2008, the central midfielder joined the club with Kettering Town team-mate Gary Mills. Having previously played in the football league with Cambridge United, Bridges made the move to Latvia where he joined SK Riga. Injury meant it was only a short stay and he returned to join Histon where he helped them achieve promotion to the Conference South. After returning to Cambridge for a couple of seasons, he was released and joined Kettering. Bridges was a member of Paul Fairclough’s England ‘C’ squad to face Italy in 2006.

  19 - Callum Willock
Forward
London-born Willock joined Stevenage in the January 2008 transfer window after turning down a new contract at League One Port Vale. He began his career as a youth player at Fulham, playing on loan at Q.P.R, Bristol Rovers and Peterborough United, before making the move to London Road permanent in December 2003 for £25,000. He left Peterborough for Brentford in January 2006 and moved on to Port Vale 12 months later.

  20 - Steve Morison
Forward
Steve Morison arrived at Broadhall Way early in the 2006-07 season after catching Mark Stimson's eye in his free scoring spell at Hertfordshire rivals, Bishop's Stortford. Having started his career at Northampton Town, Morison has experience of playing (and scoring) in the Football League. The lethal striker ended his debut season for Borough with 34 goals including the winner in the FA trophy final. In his second season, Morison struck 22 goals in his second season at the club and established himself in Paul Fairclough’s England ‘C’ squad.

  21 - Mitchell Cole
Midfield
Cole, a left-winger, was at Norwich City's Centre of Excellence, but when the centre was closed he joined West Ham. However, injury problems limited his ability to play professional football and he joined then part-timers Grays Athletic under Mark Stimson where he was selected for the England semi-professional side. He returned to league football in mid-July 2005 joining neighbours Southend United who paid the Conference new boys a club record fee. After a loan spell at Northampton, Cole made the move to Broadhall Way in January 2007 to rejoin Mark Stimson.

  22 - Zak Burke
Striker

  23 - Andy Drury
Midfield
24-year-old midfielder Drury was signed by Graham Westley after being out of contract with Conference South champions Lewes. A highly-rated box-to-box player with Ebbsfleet he adds competition anywhere across the midfield, and can play both wide right and left.

  24 - Michael Bostwick
Midfield
Another of Graham Westley’s summer signings, 19-year-old midfielder Bostwick joined from FA Trophy Winners Ebbsfleet on a two-year deal. The utility player was out of contract at the end of last season and Graham Westley moved quickly to secure his signature. Comfortable both in midfield and in defence, he has already notched up more than 80 appearances in the Conference.

  25 - Ronnie Henry
Defender
Signed by Graham Westley in January 2005, and although he only secured his place in the side late in the season, Henry was one of the most influential players as Borough made a late run for the play-offs. The Hemel Hempstead born centre back was a Spurs trainee for two years, and during that time played three times for Southend United while on loan. The centre back has topped the 100 appearance mark and finally got on the score sheet last season. Henry was named captain by Mark Stimson and has regularly featured for the England ‘C’ team. He recently signed a new two year deal to stay at the club.

  26 - Liam McDevitt
Defender
A product of the EFCO youth system, McDevitt was rewarded a professional contract at Broadhall Way after impressing in the reserve team. Along with fellow defender Jack Bradshaw, he will be looking to establish himself in Graham Westley’s first team plans.

  27 - Jerome Anderson
Striker
After scoring 33 goals in Oxford United’s league winning youth team Anderson was surprisingly not offered a contract by the club, which was good news for Stevenage. The talented youngster impressed in pre-season action and manager Mark Stimson was quick to offer the speedy striker a contract at Broadhall Way.

  28 - Jack Bradshaw
Defender
A product of the Stevenage Borough Academy and EFCO scheme, Bradshaw was awarded a contract at Stevenage late in 2006. Originally a striker Bradshaw was converted to a full back by the youth coaches and has not looked back since. Joins fellow academy graduate Liam McDevitt in the first team and will be looking to feature in Graham Westley’s plans this season.
